Ordering and pricing.
On the way home from picking up this book from the printers in 2007, I dropped Amoral America off at various book stores. The good news is that every bookstore took some books, the bad news is that some towns, with a population of over 20,000, didn't even have a book store. Since that time I have learned that the big book store chains do not encourage local authors or controversial books. For example the Chapters/Indigo chain, who control so much of Canada's book retailing, will only put the book in the 'local authors' section which is not much help if a reader is looking for a history text. They also say it will be weeks before they have room. In fact after 6 months they still did not have room for this book. In addition they want 45% of the retail price and I have to pay for shipping and pickup if the books don't sell. They also want you to deal with each store individually which takes much more time and running around and the big store in North Vancouver agreed to take a grand total of 1 books. Therefore the conventional book retailer is unavailable to books like Amoral America.
I have always thought that the various truths in 'Amoral America' should not be subject to the all-pervasive profit motive. It is important in a 'democracy' for the people to know the truth and if this is hidden from them, by the very same governments that claim to promote democracy, then democracy is threatened. Therefore the online cost of the book is now only $10, either US or CDN, because they are now almost equal. 100% of this price will be donated to a truly needy cause. You can review donations via the Amoral America web site 'News' tab. This price for a 750 page new book is unusually low and made possible by the efforts of the people who have put it together without payment.
The tricky bit is the shipping. Far too many governments have now decided that many of the 'services' they provide should make a profit and that applies to Postal services. Mailing a single book of this size used to be reasonable but now it costs $14.16 from Vancouver to Toronto and $18.43 from Vancouver to Los Angeles. Please send us an email to find out the shipping costs to countries other than the US and Canada. All this makes me think that our governments would have us read less and watch TV more.
If you order more than one book the shipping cost drops considerably, per book. Our email address is book@amoralamerica.info
We have decided to simplify this process by making the online price of the book including shipping $24 CDN for anyone in Canada. For Americans the price of the book, including shipping is $28 USD. Please mail us a check made out to R. Fearn, for this amount, in your currency and be sure to include your postal mailing address. Our postal mailing address is -
